Philadelphia Trip April 2008

Every once in a while, much against my will, I am forced to leave Perham for continuing education. This year I had the good fortune of having a meeting in Philadelphia to attend.

Once we got settled into our downtown hotel, we took a walking tour. We stopped first at the Reading Terminal Market to get the original Philly Cheese Steak.

Among the landmarks of Philadelphia are the many murals that adorn the brick walls throughout the city (they even have a mural tour). This one is in the Reading Terminal.

This one is on the Avenue of the Arts.

Philadelphia has its own Chinatown.

The City Hall building is quite an architectural wonder. Note another mural to the right.

I attended meetings from 7 AM until 5 PM every day. Becky toured the city while I was busy. She visited the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. One day she took a tour of City Hall. The tower is taller than it looks (40 stories). It was built in the late 1800s to be the world's tallest building. By the time it was finished, it was eclipsed by the Eiffel Tower.

Our second night out we ate at Ruth's Chris Steak House. I had seen this restaurant advertised in the airline magazines and always wanted to give it a try. Becky's Mom had given me some money for my birthday so I thought this would be the perfect way to use it. We had the best waiter I have ever had and food that was in the top tier. Even the side dishes were outstanding (which they should be given that you pay extra for them).

Philadelphia has a lot of public art. Here is an office plaza that has game pieces used as art.

This is one Sorry(TM) woman.

I finally got her back to work on the shirts.

This couple in Love was found in nearby Love Park (this photo courtesy of our full employment for the homeless policy).

Marc took us out for Italian on Thursday evening. I thought he was working as a lawyer but it appears that he is making a living as a limousine driver. He claims that no one wants to see their doctor driving an expensive car but they expect their lawyers to.

We stopped by the house for a short visit...

...and to see Erik and give him this birthday present. Erik is recovering from a back surgery (he wanted to be like his Grandpa Stolee). He still attends college and is studying criminal justice.
