Close-up Weekend at Valhalla

I went up to Valhalla to close up for the season. While there I did some electrical work and installed an outlet down at the water pump as well as a light for the dock area. No one took pictures of me working so it is not an established fact until you come up and check on me. Dad and I took a hike. Of course the weather was perfect.

Dad has made a new trail up high on the hill behind his cabin. It joins his Skyline Drive with my Little David trail. He calls it E 158th St. We hiked to Little David. This picture doesn't show the beauty of the colors at this time of year. Dad has made a lot of progress over the past year going from only being able to walk a block or two to making this 2+ mile trip with very few breaks.

Sunday was all about closing up for both of us. I did happen to see this spruce grouse pausing on our deck rail. (I did find out why these birds seem so dumb: they are overly confident in their camouflage. They eat conifer needles to survive! For years we have heard a low beating sound in the woods that sounded like a tree bouncing against another tree. This is from the male spruce grouse. We also saw two fly off when we were hiking.)

I close this season by honoring the great fishermen of the year.
