Visiting Lochlann (page 2)

On Friday we visited Lochlann at his school. This is his teacher. She has many innovative ways to try and stimulate Lochlann. She had a small wading pool filled with dry leaves so the kids could understand the feel and sounds of fall.

Lochlann had an appointment with the pediatric neurologist that is the medical director of the school. Lochlann's physical therapist and teacher attended to try and contribute their observations. Lochlann has grown faster than anyone expected and is outgrowing his stroller, wheelchair and even his sitting chair for home. He will also need prosthetics for his feet to prevent contractures. This will add some financial pressure to Kara and Kurt as their insurance company denies most of the claims for equipment.

We played plenty of games of Pinochle every night (I let Kara and Mom win a couple games).

Kurt does most of the morning work with Lochlann and loves holding him at night as well. Lochlann likes to have his head massaged.

This is the front view of their new house. It is quite large and has a lot of private areas outside of their living spaces. They have two apartments that are nearly completely separate. One is where Mom lives. The other is where Kurt's Dad stays when he is there (and where I stayed). They each have their own bath rooms and kitchens besides the bedrooms.

Kara took me on another hike. This is the view from the top of the hill at the beginning of the trek. She took me down into the valley to see a nice forest and creek.

This was the object of our hike. Kara calls it a grotto but the Germans call it Kessel (which means kettle). It is a beautiful area.

On Saturday, Kurt took us on a tour of the fall colors (German style) and Weissenburg. Weissenburg is a town in northern France that has passed back and forth between Germany and France over the centuries. It has a unique blend of the cultures. This is the cathedral of Peter and Paul.

This is considered a Little Venice because of the canals that run through the old city. The bridges were too low for my gondola.

Same scene with people in it for those of you that don't like my scenics.
