Mission to Guatemala Fall 2008 (Page 3)
| Friday November 21st. We wrapped up on Friday. We did another 6 cases before finishing around noon. This is Dr. Herrera who founded the medical school and the Clinica Salud de Barbara that we worked out of. |
Dr. Herrera got a glimpse of the operating suite named after him. |
| Friday was a big day for the clinic. They had a large formal celebration of the opening of the surgical facilities and the albergue (patient safe house). |
The ribbon cutting celebrating the opening of the Albergue. This building was supported by United Way. |
| There were many speeches and dignitaries honoring the occasion. |
And some not so dignitaries looked on. |
| Then Betty got to the work of packing up the bins for another year. |

| In the evening we had a celebration with a Marimba band playing. |
The faculty of the medical school had some prizes for us and Betty won one. |
| Saturday November 22. We spent Saturday with Rodrigo at his parents' plantation. The story is on the next page. We came back to Antigua for a farewell dinner. We ate at a French restaurant and I ordered steak tartare. Imagine my horror to receive raw meat in Guatemala. That horror was doubled when I made the maitre d' take it back and cook it. This photo is of our OR team. |
